Joe Blob (Woot! 2019)
A downloadable game
MISSION
The objective of the game is to escape from Von Creed’s Castle. To do you must reach the centre of the maze, and enter the Teleport.
On the way you must pick up three pieces of the ‘Telepass’ to enable you to use the Teleport. Sounds easy? Well you also have to avoid the obligatory baddies on the way, who will try to stop you reaching the Teleport.
Once in Teleport Room, you must crack an alpha or numeric code to use the Teleport. You only have four goes to guess the correct one letter or digit randomly selected code. You will only be given one clue per guess - to tell you whether the actual code is higher or lower.
Lifesaver: You have one shield at the start of every game. This gives you an extra 10 seconds (Time-base game) or 10 moves (Energy-based game).
You must find your way through four levels to escape the despotic Baron Von Creed.
Good luck!
ABOUT THE 2019 VERSION
Ronan McEvoy got in touch with Planeta Sinclair. Thirty years ago, he programmed a small game in Sinclair BASIC that mixes strategy with mazes. He sent us the game in the meantime and we really liked what we saw.
With the proper authorization from Ronan McEvoy, Espectroteam made improvements to the game, smoothing out some edges:
- Accelerated the game speed by converting Sinclair BASIC code to ZX BASIC
- Tested all levels, so that there are no impossible mazes to be completed.
- Made codes between levels random. For some reason, randomness was not working properly.
- Added introduction music to make the game more appealing.
- A new loading screen.
This remastered version was included in WOOT! ZXMAS 2019 compilation.
